Hunger Awareness - Spooning State House

On Wednesday, September 30, students who chose to walked to the statehouse in the rain with their humanitites class. Once there, all you caould see were orange plastic spoons stuck in rows on the statehouse lawn. There were close to 20 adults in raincoats hunched down, sticking bright orange plastic spoons into the lawn. Students walked over to the head of the foodbank, and he explained what was going on. They were raising hunger awareness in Vermont. Each plastic spoon counted as 10 hungry people in Vermont and there were close to 1,500 spoons. Students were given 10 or so spoons and were instructed to stick the handle of the spoon into the ground. It was cold, windy, rainy, and wasn't the funnest activity ever, but once the students were finished it was pretty cool.
